A Life coach is a qualified, professional who works with you in order to help you achieve specific aims and goals. A good life coach will not only encourage you to reach your full potential and help you to improve many areas of your life, but is skilled in assisting you to identify and overcome any blocks or negative thought patterns which may be holding you back..A well as developing an action plan, I also include sessions on NLP or CBT based exersizes which many of my clients help them s to get instant strategies they can use at home., as they work towards their bigger goals. It is important to be aware that a life coach is not a therapist, a life coach works from the premise that you do not have mental illness or psychiatric problems which require a qualified .therapist. However, some coaches (including myself) might include stress- busting exercises and activities to help you with coping with everyday moderate stress, although anyone suffering from depression or severe anxiety should speak to their doctor because a life coach is not qualified to work with mental illness.
Life coaches often use different approaches to work, Approaches you will hear often include such descriptions as results- based, spiritual, collaborative and transformational to name just a few. But many of these approaches incorporate varying levels of fairly similar content, often this will include elements of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy(CBT) and Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) for example. It is a good idea to do a little research into life coaching before you start and when you've found a coach you feel would suit you. then arrange what we call a 'chemistry call' These are usually free and take place between you and your coach, they are around 20/ 30 minutes. face to face , over the phone, or zoom, whatever is mutually agreed. Its an opportunity for the coach to get to know each other a little better and for you to see if you both feel you are a good match, before you commit to signing up for sessions..
WHAT HAPPENS DURING LIFE COACHING?
Your first session will be predominately your coach finding out more about you,
What has brought you to life coaching, what are your strengths, weaknesses, your goals and aims in life for the future. What might have been holding you back and discussing any negative patterns in your life which you have identified and you may feel have prevented you from achieving your objectives. Then together, a life coach will work with you to formulate a plan to move you forward which will be tailored to your individual needs. Coaches will sometimes give you a task to do to follow through for the next session and you will be given encouragement and support all the way as you begin to start your exciting journey. Each next session you will recap over your time since you last met and discuss your progress. When you have completed all your sessions , you should have learnt a lot about yourself, be very clear what you want and either achieved your goal/goals or be well on your way.
HOW OFTEN DO I SEE MY COACH?
Some people may only have a couple of sessions spread out or close together. each week, very two weeks or even 1 a month are options with me.. The space between each session will vary and will not only depend on what you want to gain from your sessions, but also what suits both you and your coach in terms of availability and budget . Again, after your 1st meeting, a good coach will discuss this with you and mutually you will agree the best plan for your individual needs going forward.
